Since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 2001 event, a real need emerged to identify terrorists trying to board planes at airports. As in many cases the only information available on suspected terrorists was a mugshot or surveillance photo, fingerprint recognition has received increased attention as the biometrics which could help identify terrorists before they board the plane.

 

The Malaysian airlines flight MH370 disappearance event has raised more concern on the issue of accurate identification in airports, boarder crossing and other border controls.
